This past weekend, Ben and I had the privilege of being flown out to Venice to visit my family. My dad and my sisters were in Italy for the last 10 days, and it was our opportunity to see them. First time in over a year!

We landed in glorious sunshine and HEAT! Oh the heat was fabulous. We sat down in an outdoor cafe for some pizza margarita and wine not more than 20 minutes after we arrived. Welcome to Italy!

We had a wonderful time walking around the city. We explored the palace, piazza San Marco, and wandered aimlessly around the streets. Much wine and pasta was consumed.

Overall Venice was a beautiful city. It was so romantic and charming – every where you turned were small canal ways and winding pedestrian paths. I loved how the water was everywhere! And so blue!

I think next time I go I would like to see more of the islands – and perhaps take a ride on the vaporetto. I would have loved being on the water. X

Dreaming of Cinque Terre

Have you ever had a place you dreamed to be?  Like it was calling your name in the wind?  Well, to be completely honest, that place is and will always be London for me, but I am currently hearing another small voice in these gusty winter winds.  And this one sounds much more foreign (and Italian!)

I have been dreaming of visiting Cinque Terre ever since I saw the photo above on a random Google search.  It looks so picturesque!  Look at the coloured buildings, the coastal cliff, the blue Mediterranean Sea.. and can’t you just smell the pasta and olives?  And not to mention the wine??

I have begged Ben to join me on this quest but alas – not this year.  Instead we have another scenic island in mind (big reveal to come later!)

But Cinque Terre has beckoned to me yet again.  This morning while innocently browsing through one of my favourite travel sites, I came across this link.  For all of you people looking to live your own version of Eat, Pray, Love, look no further!  I am dying to reply ‘yes’.  I am enticed by the promise of new friends, learning how to cook Italian food, tasting new wines, exploring the cliffside parks, and feeling some fresh sea air in my hair and around my ankles.

Perhaps next time Cinque Terre… x

Cinque Terre

“We search for happiness everywhere, but we are like Tolstoy’s fabled beggar who spent his life sitting on a pot of gold, under him the whole time. Your treasure–your perfection–is within you already. But to claim it, you must leave the buy commotion of the mind and abandon the desires of the ego and enter into the silence of the heart.” ~Elizabeth Gilbert, Eat, Pray, Love

I’m thinking for my first major holiday – Cinque Terre.  Beautiful and brightly coloured Italian homes, blue Mediterranean sea side, rocky cliffs, wine, and Italian food.  I’m even going to start taking Italian classes for it.  x
